  • I am very happy that we succeeded in pushing member states towards far more ambitious energy efficiency targets.
  • This is crucial so that we no longer depend on Russian energy in the future, and can meet our climate targets.
  • The Energy efficiency directive addresses proposal 3(3), which aims to reduce dependencies from oil and gas imports through energy efficiency projects and expansion of clean and renewable energy provision.

  • MEPs also secured that the new financing should not come at the expense of existing cohesion funding.
  • We delivered on the most urgent aspect of the law: ensuring the provision of more ammunition for Ukraine.

  • According to the proposed law, violations would include not freezing funds or not respecting travel bans as required by sanctions, or doing business with state-owned entities of countries subject to sanctions.
  • The Council adopted this decision in November 2022, and the Commission put forward the proposal for harmonisation in December 2022.

  • EU manufacturers already have to align with ecodesign rules for energy-related products, such as heaters, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners or computers, reducing energy consumption and negative environmental effects in the design stage.
  • The EU now wants to go a step further and introduce ecodesign rules for almost every product.
