American College of Lifestyle Medicine announces first two medical schools to earn highest recognition and certification for lifestyle medicine curriculum

ST. LOUIS, April 11, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) has announced that the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (SOMG) and Loma Linda University School of Medicine (LLUSM) are the first to earn the highest recognition of a "Platinum Plus" certification designation for the significant level of undergraduate lifestyle medicine curricula within their programs.

Key Points:

This level of lifestyle medicine curricula within medical schools supports graduates in achieving part of the prerequisites to become certified in lifestyle medicine by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM), following successful completion of the remaining prerequisites during residency training.
Through ACLM's Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Curriculum Certification process, students graduating from lifestyle medicine-certified medical schools are able to complete a portion of lifestyle medicine educational prerequisite hours (depending on their medical school's tier of certification) to go towards becoming certified in lifestyle medicine.

COLLEGE PARK, Md., March 14, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Flooding is a pervasive problem across Maryland with reports showing it to be the most frequent and expensive natural disaster in the state. Climate change, development, and aging infrastructure have made the problem worse over the last several decades, with particularly devastating effects for socioeconomically vulnerable communities. To help combat this problem, University of Maryland Extension (UME) will partner with Maryland Sea Grant at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to expand understanding and use of existing flood inundation mapping (FIM) tools, and implement a newly developed one to mitigate flood risk and improve preparation across the state.

ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 30, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Following extreme drought and heat in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest, the SeaWorld Conservation Fund made an emergency grant to the Mamirauá Institute for Sustainable Development (IDSM) to support the rescue of Amazon river dolphins and mitigate the impact of the environmental emergency in and around Lake Tefé, located in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. Amazon river dolphins, many of a striking pink color, are a unique freshwater species found only in the rivers of South America and are one of a handful of freshwater dolphin species left in the world. The IDSM is using this grant to further its efforts in recovering dolphin carcasses and gathering biological samples for analyses, with the goal of determining the cause of death. Additionally, IDSM is implementing a comprehensive rescue plan to rescue, treat and translocate healthy dolphins to a more suitable natural habitat.
