The Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) announced today that major players in the automotive and global smart device industries came together to advance CCC Digital Key, delivering a secure, effortless, and universal way for vehicle access. The event, CCC End-to-End Interoperability PlugFest #3, was hosted by Google, in San Jose, CA, on March 27-31, 2023 and is a milestone in the consortium’s advancement of the CCC Digital Key certification.

Major vehicle OEM members and global device providers including Apple, BMW, Continental Automotive, Google, OPPO, Rivian Automotive, and Samsung, were on hand to test their CCC Digital Key implementations. Test is a crucial step in launching the CCC Digital Key certification that will bring forth a true universal standard for the market, increasing interoperability, reducing market fragmentation, and providing the best user experience.

“This was a momentous event for us as this is the first time we have had this level of participation in a CCC Digital Key PlugFest which shows that wireless connections are on the cusp of changing for the better,” said Alysia Johnson, president of the Car Connectivity Consortium. “The market is ready for CCC Digital Key to lead the charge in providing an effortless, safe and universal standard for vehicle-to-device connectivity.”

CCC End-to-End Interoperability PlugFest allows attendees to test their CCC Digital Key implementations against other member companies’ implementations to help discover and investigate any possible problems to ensure companies are improving or correcting technical specifications, test suites and test tools, before bringing this technology to the larger consumer market.

This CCC PlugFest targets End-to-End Interoperability for WCC 1 (NFC Type A and B only), compliant with Digital Key Release 3, Version 1.1. Members had access to the latest version of the Digital Key End-to-End Interoperability test tool and sniffer hardware including different antennas, designed and developed by COMPRION GmbH. The test tool will be used to execute Digital Key End-to-End Interoperability test cases defined in CCC-TS-106. Results from these test sessions will be used to validate the test tool.
