Minister Bains was joined by the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Natural Resources, and Randy Boissonnault, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre.
The University of Alberta received a Government of Canada investment of more than $56 million through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund for 10 redevelopment and construction projects.
The projects included renewing and improving lab spaces; creating the Industry Engagement Facility, a new makerspace; and upgrading the IT network.

Deborah Hicks and Michele Villagran will teach core competency courses in the iSchool's Master of Library and Information Science degree program.
They bring years of instructional experience to INFO 204 Information Professions and INFO 200 Information Communities, respectively.
Hicks received a Doctor of Philosophy, specializing in educational administration and leadership from the University of Alberta.
She was previously a lecturer at the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia.
