IEI:Lead Expands Its Partnership With Howard University to Increase Learning Opportunities For Aspiring School District Leaders

Howard University Assistant Professor Dr. Shawn Joseph Joins the Institute of Education Innovation as Director of IEI:Lead
NEW YORK, Aug. 29, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Institute for Education Innovation (IEI), a national school superintendent think tank working to ensure that empowered leaders have the influence, access, resources, and support they need to empower their students, is excited to collaborate with Howard University's School of Education to drive greater equity in K-12 administration and build pathways toward leadership for educators.
Dr. Shawn Joseph, Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Howard University, will help direct programs for IEI:Lead, which empowers principals to step into administrative roles, and prepares district leaders for superintendent positions through mentorship, collaboration, and leadership development. Through the IEI:Lead Winter 2024 Aspiring Superintendent and Aspiring District Leader cohorts, Dr. Joseph will be joined by renowned education leaders to help participants gain a deeper understanding of their leadership style and strengths, practice their skills with mock board interviews, and role-play real-life scenarios and simulations. Participants will also discover actionable solutions they can tailor to their district's needs to ensure equitable learning opportunities and improve student outcomes.
In addition, cohort participants will be offered 55 continuing education hours as well as a certificate from Howard University by completing a practitioner-oriented capstone project. The capstone will challenge participants to combine what they learn throughout the programs with their professional experience to analyze a real-world issue, providing practical recommendations to their district leadership team.

Over the course of the Winter 2024 cohorts, new and aspiring district leaders gather virtually once a week for two-hour sessions led this year by Dr. Joseph as well as Dr. Sarena Shivers, Deputy Executive Director of Professional Learning and Member Services, Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators, Traci Davis, Superintendent Emeritus, and Tom Burton, Superintendent Emeritus, who will share their own unique perspectives, insights, and guidance.
