The 2022 Gartner Hype Cycle describes API Threat Protection as, “the defense of web APIs from exploits, abuse, access violations and denial of service (DoS) attacks,” and asserts that, “traditional network and web protection tools do not protect against all the security threats facing APIs, including many of those described in the OWASP API Security Top 10.”1
