Planned for Saturday, January 19th, Family Fun day is an
interactive community experience presented by Florida Vocational
Institute (FVI), Miramar campus. The day-long event introduces the
community to FVI and career education opportunities for young people
focusing on healthcare and technology. A fascinating display featuring
Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) will be presented during the
event. Augmented and Virtual Reality make up an exploding tech-industry
segment presenting new career opportunities and FVI is embracing the
sector.
The Augmented and Virtual Reality room presents an opportunity for
people to better understand the excitement around this dynamic and
evolving technology, while enjoying Family Fun Day activities, including
music, carnival and video games, face painting and balloons, free food
and tours of FVI’s new Miramar campus. “We are setting up a room
specifically to showcase Augmented (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)” said
Erik Brodie, FVI’s VP of Marketing. Brodie stated that two seating areas
in the room will have Oculus Go VR headsets available for use. “They
will be showcasing Anatomy and Tech orientated content and there’s an
Augmented Reality component to the room. He said an iPad utilizing AR
apps allows users to explore human anatomy. “The AR images on the iPad
will broadcast to a 70” TV for everyone in the room to see.”
Access to this AR and VR experience may be the 1st for some folks. Hands
on demonstration on how VR and AR can be used for more than just
entertainment will be a highlight. These cutting-edge technologies can
be used to increase engagement and ultimately help to facilitate
learning. Brodie said, “for someone who has never used a VR headset,
they will be blown away by what they see.” Note that the room will
remain an AR/VR lab beyond Family Fun Day. “We want Florida Vocational
Institute to continue to be a forward-thinking career school with plans
of introducing these technologies into the classroom in Q1 of 2019.”
FVI with support of the City of Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam invites the
community to come out and learn more, while having a fun filled family
