Local Veteran, Edward Oltmann, Receives Life-Changing Gift as Part of Fourth Annual Baths for the Brave
This event will provide Edward Oltmann from Covington, LA and 15 other veterans from across the country with a brand-new walk-in shower system, free of charge.
According to the 2019 Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 25% of U.S. veterans live with a disability: many face everyday challenges such as bathing. In honor of Veterans Day, MaxHome, a New Orleans based home remodeling company, specializing in bathrooms remodels and window and patio door replacements, is teaming up for the fourth year in a row with 10 home improvement companies from across the country on an annual initiative known as Baths for the Brave.
This one-day special event is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 11. This event will provide Edward Oltmann from Covington, LA and 15 other veterans from across the country with a brand-new walk-in shower system, free of charge. To date, Baths for the Brave has helped over 30 veterans eliminate the everyday fight to bathe, and this year that number continues to grow. Baths for the Brave mission is to help improve the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
Mr. Oltmann is a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969 as a Sergeant in Quang Tri. Mr. Oltmann was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. Upon returning to civilian life, he married his high school sweetheart. He had two jobs, an air conditioning and refrigeration man and a New Orleans firefighter. For over 20 years, Mr. Oltmann was “the guy who ran into the burning buildings.”
Mr. Oltmann is honored to be MaxHome’s Baths for the Brave recipient, “It means a lot. When I go to get in the bathtub, it’s a struggle. I have to move here and move there, and sometimes I just don’t move right, and I fall. It’s really going to be a great help to my wife, too. She recently became wheelchair-bound and bathing has been a real challenge. I’m just real excited about it. It’s going to help out a lot.”
“After four years of participating in Baths for the Brave, the enjoyment of watching a veteran receive a bathroom remodel doesn’t get old,” Larry Closs, President and CEO of MaxHome, said. “We participate in Baths for the Brave because it gives veterans an opportunity to extend their independence and dignity by making their bathing experience safer, and seeing how it changes a veteran’s life is something special to be a part of.”
