• FOX News Channel (FNC) has signed Court TV’s Chanley Painter as an overnight anchor.
• Since 2019, Painter has served as a legal correspondent and field anchor for Court TV.
• In 2021 she was awarded the Scripps Give Light award for leadership, dedication, and hard work in legal journalism.
• Painter hails from the state of Arkansas where she earned two professional degrees, graduating with honors before passing two state bar exams concurrently.

• ET Sunday, Nov. 12 that coincides with the one-year anniversary of the shocking murder investigation around four University of Idaho students that stunned the country.
• "The Case Against Bryan Kohberger" explores the mounting evidence against the former PhD student accused of the grisly crime, including DNA, video surveillance and cell phone data.
• The debut of "The Case Against Bryan Kohberger'" follows other recent programming expansions for the network, including "Victim to Verdict with Ted Rowlands" and "Opening Statements with Julie Grant."
• In addition, the network over the summer launched the free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel "Court TV: Legendary Trials," which features the nation's most compelling, high-profile cases over the past 30 years, curated from the massive Court TV archives.

• Americans will have few opportunities to binge-watch the Donald J. Trump trials.
• Even members of Congress from both sides of the aisle proposed legislation requiring cameras in the U.S. Supreme Court.
• In this age of Court TV and Judge Judy, why would trials not be televised?
• There are many reasons why all trials aren’t televised, spanning the history of case law, congressional legislation, empirical research, high-profile “circus” trials and, in some cases, fear.

From public to pensive

• The right to a public trial is enshrined in English common law and the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
• Almost everyone is guaranteed public access to, and thus oversight of, their case, which allows the public to hold the system accountable.
• But the courts have struggled to define how “public” to make a public trial.
• Generally, in most state courts, an individual judge can make the ultimate decision about allowing cameras in their courtroom.

Grandstanding or transparency?

• A lawyer representing Trump in the federal 2020 election case said in July that he would prefer cameras in the courtroom.
• Judges say cameras invite grandstanding by lawyers, intimidate jurors and witnesses, or cause select sound bites to reflect poorly on the court.
• Introduce the possibility of using artificial intelligence to create deepfake videos about courtroom proceedings, and judges may get even more skittish.
• One study indicates that recording trials can actually help train better lawyers by viewing, not just reading about, previous cases.
• A 1994 Federal Judicial Center study found that judges and lawyers noted little-to-no detrimental effect of cameras on federal proceedings.

• National law firm Napoli Shkolnik, led by Marie Napoli, Hunter Shkolnik and Paul Napoli, has announced another successful year of landmark settlements and significant legal action in the areas of opioid crisis litigation, environmental justice, mass tort, and civil rights.
• The case was negotiated by Partner Hunter Shkolnik , along with fellow members of the National Prescription Opiate Litigation Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee Negotiating Team.
• Mr. Shkolnik, along with Partners Salvatore C. Badala, Joseph L. Ciaccio and Shayna E. Sacks, represented Nassau County in that groundbreaking case.
• This action came seven months after ten people were killed in a mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo.
