Company Volunteers Help Stomp Out Hunger
CULVER CITY, Calif., June 13, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Servicon, Southern California's leading hospital environmental services (EVS) provider and commercial cleaning services company, helped Stomp Out Hunger.
Servicon's philanthropic arm, ServiconCares, partnered with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and Food Finders on May 13 to participate in Food Finders' annual Stomp Out Hunger in California's Seal Beach community.
Filling a Food Void
Stomp Out Hunger is an annual nationwide community drive held on the second Saturday in May to help those facing food shortages or food insecurity. The Seal Beach, California, post office delivered bags to area residents, asking them for canned and nonperishable food donations. The postal workers picked up the bags, dropping them off at the post office where volunteers sorted through the bags, discarding expired or otherwise unusable donations. The volunteers taped and placed 900-plus boxes on skids for pick up by nonprofits, such as food pantries and group homes.
"Hunger and food insecurity is a huge problem in Southern California," says Servicon CEO and President Laurie Sewell. "May is also Mental Health Awareness Month. Physical and mental well-being is impossible if people don't have enough to eat or aren't sure where, when, or how they will get their next meal. We particularly wanted to join the effort in the Seal Beach area where so many of our employees work and live."
An estimated 60 volunteers—divided evenly between ACHE and Servicon staff—worked in shifts from noon to 10 p.m., boxing enough food to feed roughly 1,000 families per nonprofit.
"ServiconCares partners annually with Food Finders," says Karina Cortez, Servicon marketing and events coordinator. "These types of events are extensions of our morals and values as a company. We care about the communities and our employees who live in them. It's one thing to employ people and to hold employee events. This is another way to be community focused and give back."
