  • Combatting violence against women and domestic violence - trilogue - 13.7.23
    On Thursday, 13 July 2023, the first trilogue on the proposal for a Directive on combatting violence against women and domestic violence took place at the premises of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
  • It is a historic step forward in strengthening the response across the EU to violence against women and domestic violence, and especially heinous crimes that include sexual violence.
  • The EP mandate, which received overwhelming support from MEPs, is understood as comprehensive and ambitious, and leads with the establishment of minimum rules for the criminalization of rape based on consent, and of cyber violence offences, for which the figures are increasingly worrying and urgent joint action is needed.
  • This first trilogue was chaired jointly by the FEMM and LIBE committees, in the attendance of the Spanish Minister of Justice Pilar Llop Cuenca, and the Vice-President of the Commission Vera Jourova and the Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli.
