- This year's theme is "life sciences," and JAIMA has invited Professor Emeritus Toshihiro Akaike of the Tokyo Institute of Technology as the keynote speaker.
- Professor Akaike started his career in polymer chemistry at the University of Tokyo and continued his research into biomaterials connecting polymer chemistry and bio-chemistry through his work at Tokyo Women's Medical University.
- This year's lectures will cover the latest in biomaterials, from regenerative medicine and drug delivery to vaccines based on cadherin biology and cadherin engineering.
