But according to an FTC complaint, when it came to backing its mattress claims with proper support, the company was asleep at the switch.

Key Points:
  • But according to an FTC complaint, when it came to backing its mattress claims with proper support, the company was asleep at the switch.
  • The company said other mattresses it sold were made from BabySafe Natural Materials, including eco-friendly plant-based foam.
  • The company also claimed that testing proved there are no VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds, commonly known as Off Gassing).
  • According to a logo the company prominently displayed, its products had the Green Safety Shield.
  • The complaint alleges that a substantial majority of the content in the Starlight Simplicity and Little Star mattresses wasnt organic.
  • In fact, according to the FTC, the only purely organic content was the mattress ribbon, a minor decorative component.
  • Despite Moonlight Slumbers ad claims, the latex core for the Little Star mattress was synthetic, not natural and six other mattress styles contained little or no plant-based material.
  • The FTC also alleges that the company didnt have sound science to support the claim that its products didnt emit substances like VOCs.
  • FTC and USDA staff, along with various stakeholders, discussed these issues at an October 2016 roundtable on consumer perception of organic claims.

Bobbie and The Breasties Continue to Advocate For Insurance Equality For Mothers Impacted by Breast Cancer

Retrieved on:
Tuesday, November 29, 2022

Over the last year, Bobbie has focused on closing the current policy gap surrounding insurance coverage for infant formula or donor milk. Right now, new moms in the U.S. can get a free breast pump but no coverage for formula or donor milk. Insurance coverage is tied solely to the health of the baby, not the physical capabilities of a mother to be able to breastfeed. Coverage for formula or donor milk is only considered if the baby has a diagnosed medical condition. But in cases where the mom physically cannot breastfeed due to breast cancer treatment, the medical necessity for formula or donor milk still exists-- yet a policy to support them does not.

Key Points:
  • As a part of this community--both personally and professionally--I urge all women to advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself.
  • The Breasties is honored to be working with Bobbie for the second year in a row to make an impact within the breast cancer community, said Allie Brumel, co-founder of The Breasties, breast cancer survivor and new mom.

USDA’s public comment period for the proposed OLPS regulation ended on Nov. 10. The proposed rule drew overwhelming public support. Initial analysis shows that out of 39,090 posted comments, a huge majority of 89 percent were in favor of this regulation being finalized and implemented -- ensuring that organic animals have true outdoor access and closing regulatory loopholes that have led to uneven animal welfare standards and unfair conditions for organic farmers who are already raising their birds by the highest organic practices. Less than 1 percent were outright opposed to the rule.

Key Points:
