It’s been widely reported in the last month that tenants across Alhambra, and the entire state, have been given 60-day notices to vacate their homes before the Governor’s new anti-gouging law goes into effect in January. Now a surge in mass evictions and rent gouging, if unchecked, could amount to the potential displacement of thousands of working class Californians by the holidays.

Los Angeles was the first local government to take action to protect renters against predatory landlords. They were followed by Bell Gardens, Redwood City, Pasadena, Pamona, and South Pasadena.

Alhambra’s City Council must take the same urgent action that these other cities already have and join leaders on this subject by voting to issue a moratorium on all no-fault evictions and rent gouging.

Tenants facing eviction, as well as Li’i Furumoto (Asian Americans Advancing Justice - LA), Sean McMorris (Grassroots Alhambra), Jacqueline Burbank (Housing Is a Human Right), Seamus Hurley (LA Voice), and others are mobilizing Tuesday to call on City Council to immediately put a halt to all retaliatory evictions and 60-day notices until AB 1482 becomes law.
