Making History - Muwekma Ohlone Tribe Information & Cultural Exhibit at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park and Museum

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Muwekma Ohlone Tribe are presenting a one day only cultural exhibit and knowledge giving event at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and Museum. The Muwekma Exhibit is in Honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, October 14th, an important day of remembrance of our ancestors and an important day to rightly dispel the myth that Columbus discovered America.

From the Muwekma Tribal Vice Chairwoman of the San Francisco Bay Area, Monica Arellano:

• We celebrate the Survival, Resilience and Contributions of the Indigenous Peoples who have lived in this area for more than 8,000 years. We honor the major contributions that Indigenous Peoples continue to give to our thriving respective societies.
• Descended from the three Bay Area missions, Muwekma became federally recognized through an Act of Congress and other federal actions in 1906 and was never terminated.
• We invite you to learn about our Tribe's History and Heritage by visiting our Cultural Exhibit this Monday at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park and Museum located at 499 Jefferson Street, corner of Hyde Street, San Francisco, CA 94109. The Muwekma Ohlone Tribal members will be paddling a canoe out of Aquatic Cove, just as their ancestors once traveled in the beautiful SF Bay waters in Honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, October 14th.
