In his Third Year at the Helm, Newark Unified Superintendent Pat Sanchez Has Moved the District into an Upward Trajectory

NEWARK, Calif., May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Approaching his third year as the superintendent of the Newark Unified School District, Pat Sanchez has worked tirelessly to re-energize the District in his quest to make Newark Unified the educational leader of the region.

Having first arrived to the District in 2016, Sanchez moved swiftly to build coalitions throughout the District and in the community allowing him the space to immediately institute necessary reforms. From implementing a community survey to learn about community wants to adopting on-line registration for grades K-12, Sanchez has spent his time incorporating as many community requested goals as possible.

"From the very beginning of my career, I have always recognized that school districts are a reflection of the communities they serve," said Pat Sanchez, Superintendent, Newark Unified School District. "That's why I have always worked to ensure that we receive as much feedback as possible from the community in order to give them a school district they feel best represents them and their goals."

Sanchez's work has not gone unnoticed. In February, his peers selected him as the Association of California School Administrators Region 6 Administrator of the Year. He has also been recognized for his work in the Latinx community having founded Newark Unified's inaugural Latinx Summit in an effort to close the achievement gap in Newark.

"There is no better feeling than seeing students succeeding because of the support they feel we have provided them," said Sanchez. "My goal is that 100% of our students graduate from high school and enter college. I will not stop until that happens."
