With The Heavy Duty Truck Industry Growing, New York Automotive & Diesel Institute Adds to Their Curriculum, a Freightliner Cascade for Student Training

JAMAICA, N.Y., March 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- With the heavy duty truck industry growing, New York Automotive & Diesel Institute adds to their curriculum, a Freightliner Cascadia On-Highway Class 8 Tractor for student training, New York Automotive & Diesel Institute (NYADI), The College of Transportation Technology is acquiring yet another resource that will help set its students apart.

In partnership with Daimler Trucks of North America (DTNA) and New York Freightliner located in Richmond Hill Queens N.Y., the college received a late model Freightliner Cascade On-Highway Class 8 tractor on Thursday, Feb. 7, so students can get additional hands-on experience working on one of the most common brands in use today.

The truck comes from DTNA, which owns Freightliner, and the local dealership, New York Freightliner, after NYADI was rated No. 2 in the nation in the number of students it places in jobs, number of certifications students receive, and number of certified instructors it has on staff. The truck will be added to a fleet of vehicles used by the college to provide students certificates and degrees such as the Associate of Occupational Studies in diesel technology.

"Freightliner is by far the largest manufacturer of Class 6-8 On-Highway Tractors and Trucks," said Patrick Hart, President, NYADI. "It is a great example of how industry, employers and educators are working together to meet the demands of the transportation industry."

NYADI's mission is to provide students carefully designed programs and tools that will allow them to become leaders in their field. Those leaders will be needed, as the diesel repair industry is in sore need of new technicians, and demand for qualified individuals is expected to continue.

"In the heavy duty and heavy truck industry, demand for skilled technicians is off the charts," Hart said. "Employers are having a hard time getting skilled people to fix these trucks and machines."

Students who enter NYADI are positioned to capitalize on this demand. NYADI graduates are trained in all aspects of heavy duty and heavy truck repair and maintenance, and spend extensive time learning all aspects of repair. The college's faculty are among the most experienced and qualified ASE Certified technicians in the industry, and guide students from the beginning phases of the repair process to the most advanced diagnostic techniques available.

Students who attend NYADI come from all walks of life. From recent high school grads to those seeking a second career, NYADI students are among the most sought after graduates in the area and are adept at working on any vehicle in the industry. In addition, NYADI will be launching a hybrid and electric vehicles program to its curriculum to meet the growing demand of "green" vehicles.

With the late-model Freightliner, students at NYADI now have the advantage of receiving extensive work on one of the most commonly used vehicles in their industry.

"We have a fleet of vehicles, but this gives us a late-model product specific vehicle.
