Today, the Lois & Richard England Family Foundation announced Hannah Hahn as its new executive director effective July 2023. Hahn is a leader in philanthropy in the Washington, D.C. region who has spent her career dedicated to building a world that is just and equitable.

A respected program lead, Hahn spent nearly a decade in local philanthropy at The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation and The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation. In both roles, she stewarded millions of dollars of local grant investments to support education, human services, and children and families.

Prior to tackling challenges closer to home, Hahn was an international development expert, working as a technical director advising economic development, women’s empowerment and education programming in 23 countries in Africa, Asia, Eurasia and South America. She has presented reports to the World Bank and at the OECD and was recognized by The Society for International Development with the Andrew W. Rice Award for passion, commitment, creativity and impact in the international development field.

For nearly three decades, the England Family Foundation has primarily invested in Washington, D.C., focusing on education and youth development, food justice, workforce development, economic opportunity, gun violence prevention, reproductive health, voting rights and COVID-19 response, among other issues. Since 1995, the Foundation has awarded more than $50 million in grants.

Hahn’s leadership in local philanthropy includes serving as co-chair of the Early Childhood Funders Collaborative at the Washington Area Women’s Foundation, chair of the Investment Committee of Education Forward, which oversees its grant commitments and board member of the Emerging Practitioners of Philanthropy. She has also been a member of the Children, Youth and Families working group at the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers.

Hahn was selected as the executive director from a pool of 150 impressive applicants. The England Family Foundation partnered with Good Insight to conduct its national executive search.
