SAN FRANCISCO, March 2, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ABADÁ-Capoeira San Francisco (ACSF), the Bay Area's first non-profit organization dedicated to recovering, preserving, and promoting Afro-Brazilian arts and culture, is offering seven, one-week summer camp sessions, beginning June 12, 2023 and running throughout the summer. Camp sessions are for children ages 5-12, and offered Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
ACSF's experiential camp is full of fun, friends, and learning. Campers spend the day learning Capoeira and maculelê movements; play different capoeira instruments and rhythms; sing songs in Portuguese; and play capoeira-based games that accentuate team building, leadership, and cooperation.
Campers will experience other activities throughout the week, such as performance skills, writing, reading, artwork, and more. Campers not only learn acrobatic and self-defense movements, but also use them to improvise and create spontaneous capoeira "games" with partnering students.
Campers also work throughout the week to prepare for their end of session performance presented on the final day of camp in front of friends and family.
Summer camp is led by Mestra Márcia Cigarra,Instrutor Soldadinho, and Instrutor Papagaio– each who have extensive experience teaching and performing capoeira across the San Francisco Bay Area, and working with youth of all backgrounds.
"Summer camps are important because they provide a safe space for children to not only learn new things through activities like capoeira, but also develop life skills through socializing, such as collaboration with their peers in a performance," said Marcia Treidler, a.k.a. Mestra Cigarra, Artistic Director of ACSF. "ABADA Capoeira San Francisco's summer camp is unique because children can learn self-defense, acrobatics, fitness, music and a basic understanding of the Portuguese language, amongst other things. Many of our campers develop a lifelong appreciation for the art of capoeira, lasting well into adulthood."
Classes will be offered in person at ACSF Capoeira Arts Center, 3221 22nd St., San Francisco.Youth can attend one session, or sign up for multiple sessions. Enroll early and get the early-bird discount. Full and partial scholarships are available, too. Registration is now available online here.
