Twenty years ago, Randall Light (CEO), Rex Greer (President) and Lee Newman (Executive Vice President), all wireless carrier veterans, launched the concept and business plan for OVATION Wireless, initially focusing on optimization of wireless carrier bills to help streamline telecom costs for businesses. The strategy included use of their proprietary software tool Magellan, to analyze tens of thousands of rate plans and provide information for enhancing the customers return on their wireless investment. OVATION's legacy Optimization Audit Service remains an effective solution to help companies reduce their costs by fully auditing the wireless bills, aligning users' usage habits with the most cost effective plans.

Operating out of a small house converted for business in the Myers Park area of Charlotte, NC, the team set out to change the landscape of how companies managed their cell phones. It was 2002 and the cell phone industry had just undergone another significant change in technology, the ability to have a full color display and integrate a camera into a cellular device. OVATION launched just as the first camera phone was born and during a time when the wireless industry was already exploding. "At the time, many more businesses were adopting wireless technologies as an essential part of their enterprise communications plan, the opportunity was wide open for us," commented Randall Light, OVATION Co-founder and CEO.

Equipped with a staff of five employees and the founding owners, the team worked diligently to bring on new clients with the voice of the customer driving their offerings. Not long after successfully launching the Wireless Optimization Service, OVATION customers also requested more assistance and guidance on a monthly basis. OVATION added Monthly Management, Reporting and End User Support to their repertoire to help keep their clients' wireless costs and day-to-day operations streamlined after the initial audit.

As the business grew, so did the list of services and capabilities, and after two decades, two headquarters business office moves, and nearly fifty employees later, OVATION now provides complete Mobile Lifecycle Management for clients in the US as well as globally. Strategic partners have also provided a critical element to the growth strategy for OVATION. Light further recounted, "As our average client size increased to include F500 accounts we benefited from working together with them on solution expansion. While we continue to customize our service delivery for every client, the foundational development of services from the first ten years is still present in our portfolio to this day."

Another component to OVATION's success stems from their strong relationships with the wireless carriers.
