LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla., Sept. 15, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Palm Beaches will soon be home to the XII Federation of International Polo (FIP) World Polo Championship — and with thousands of expected international visitors, the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County is pleased to promote cultural activities that provide enrichment for everyone in the family.
Hosted at the International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) in Wellington, Fla. from October 26 – November 6, the 2022 tournament marks only the second time in the competition's 35-year history to be held in the U.S. Building on this buzz, here's a selection of programming for those visiting Florida's Cultural Capital® during those dates. - Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame (Wellington): Visitors are invited to discover the history and traditions of polo. Featured exhibits include an interactive timeline showing the journey from the roots of polo in Asia (more than 2,600 years ago!) through its evolution in America and present status as a popular worldwide sport. Other exhibits include “The Polo Pony: An Extraordinary Athlete,” “Horses To Remember,” a mallet-making display and the history of the U.S. Open Championship. Visitors can also explore the Hall of Fame and view magnificent trophies dating from the 1880s, equine paintings and unique artifacts. More information is available here.
- Okeeheelee Park (West Palm Beach): Experience the elite art form of dressage — a form of horse riding performed in exhibition and competition — while enjoying the beautiful nature center, bicycling paths, kayaking, fishing and butterfly garden at Okeeheelee Park. Two dressage shows hosted by Wellington Classic Dressage at The Jim Brandon Equestrian Center will be held September 24 – 25 and October 22 – 23. More information is available here.
- Cultural Council for Palm Beach County (Lake Worth Beach): A new exhibition highlighting the work of Palm Beach County’s astoundingly talented Latin American artists will run from October 28 – January 14 at the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s main gallery. Curated by guest curator Juliana Forero (founder of Nomad Art Projects), the Contemporary Art of the Latin American Diaspora exhibition highlights diverse works by more than 20 local artists and aims to showcase the range of Latin American experience by celebrating the art of its people. The exhibition includes didactic materials and opportunities for tours in Spanish and English. More information is available here.
- Arts Warehouse (Delray Beach): Looking to venture a bit further south? Visitors are invited to Delray Beach’s Warehouse Market - Fall Edition to shop local artists, makers, and creative businesses at Arts Warehouse. It’s perfect for pre-holiday shopping, and a great opportunity to support local creative professionals while finding a handmade gift or something unique for yourself. This event will include live music and food items for sale, and the onsite galleries and artist studios will also be open. - Boca Raton Museum of Art (Boca Raton):
- The museum’s lauded Art of the Hollywood Backdrop exhibition runs through January 22, 2023 and features sweeping scenic backdrops from movies between 1938 and 1968. A celebration of a popular art form that had almost been forgotten, highlights include the painting of Mount Rushmore, Ben-Hur’s Rome, the Von Trapp Family’s Austrian Alps, and Gene Kelly’s Paris street scene. - The museum’s new exhibition Reginald Cunningham: Black Pearls showcases the work of prominent Washington, D.C.-based photographer and activist Reginald Cunningham, who traveled to Boca Raton’s historic Pearl City neighborhood to photograph the stories of generations. The artist captured not just images of Pearl City residents, but also the physical and ephemeral elements that make up the community. Pearl City is the first district ever settled in Boca Raton. Cunningham’s special exhibition runs through January 22, 2023, and features 10-20 large-scale photographs with accompanying audio oral histories and personal mementos passed down through families. The exhibition is accompanied by a full-color catalog featuring an introduction about the artist by Dr. Imani Cheers and historical essay on Pearl City by Dr. Candace Cunningham. - Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach (West Palm Beach): If you’re looking for an elevated evening of music and art, the society’s ClarinetFest: Quintets of Mozart and Brahms with José Franch-Ballester will take place Thursday, November 17, at the Norton Museum of Art. - Lighthouse ArtCenter (Tequesta): Nestled at the northern edge of Palm Beach County, the Lighthouse ArtCenter will present three new exhibitions from October 13 – December 10: LUSH2, a contemporary ceramics exhibition; Hunt Slonem: The World According to Hunt Slonem, showcasing the work of the famed American painter, sculptor, and printmaker; and Lucio Chiurulla: Structures, featuring the work of sculptor Lucio Chiurulla. - 12th Annual Downtown WPB Art Festival: Enjoy an afternoon filled with arts and culture during the 12th Annual Downtown West Palm Beach Art Festival featuring all mediums of fine art. Residents and visitors are invited November 19 – 20 to stroll Rosemary Avenue amidst life-size sculptures, spectacular paintings, one-of-a-kind jewels, photography, ceramics and more. - Fall Picnic & Cocktail Class: Celebrate pumpkin season with a lawn picnic, fall photo backdrop, and cocktail class with mixology extraordinaire Gio Gutierrez on October 2 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. More information is available here.
- Taste of The Square: Let the eating commence! The Square will transform into a gastronomic destination offering ticket holders food samples from beloved restaurants, complete with live music and a pop up bar on the lawn. The festival takes place on October 20 and supports the Promise Fund of Florida, a nonprofit that aims to prevent the unnecessary progression of breast and cervical cancer, with a donation of 100 percent of the net proceeds.
