Aquestive Therapeutics Added to NASDAQ Biotechnology Index

WARREN, N.J., Dec. 17, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Aquestive Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:AQST), a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing differentiated products that meet patients’ unmet needs and solve therapeutic problems, today announced that NASDAQ has added the company to the NASDAQ Biotechnology Index® (Nasdaq: NBI) effective December 20, 2021.

The NASDAQ Biotechnology Index is designed to track the performance of a set of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies listed on The Nasdaq Stock Market® (Nasdaq®). Companies in the NBI must meet eligibility requirements, including minimum market capitalization and average daily trading volume, among other criteria. The Index is evaluated annually and serves as the basis for the iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology Index Fund (Nasdaq: IBB). Because of this designation, shares of Aquestive Therapeutics will be included in the portfolios of NBI index funds. The Company expects this to increase institutional ownership in the Company’s shares, both through index fund purchases and potentially by fund managers selecting portfolio stocks.

Aquestive has an upcoming PDUFDA date of December 23, 2021 for Libervant™ (diazepam) Buccal Film for the treatment of breakthrough seizures and seizure clusters in patients 12 years of age and older. In addition, Aquestive recently announced that it has received a written response from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to its pre-investigational new drug (pre-IND) meeting submission confirming that the development of AQST-109 for the treatment of anaphylaxis under the 505(b)(2) approval pathway is acceptable and that Health Canada has provided clearance for Aquestive’s crossover study, known as the EPIPHAST study, of AQST-109. Patient recruitment for the EPIPHAST study has begun and the Company expects the first dosing to occur before the end of 2021.

About Libervant
Libervant™ is a buccally, or inside of the cheek, administered soluble film formulation of diazepam, a benzodiazepine intended for the acute treatment of intermittent, stereotypic episodes of frequent seizure activity (i.e., seizure clusters, acute repetitive seizures) that are distinct from a patient’s usual seizure pattern in patients with epilepsy 12 years of age and older. The Company believes that Libervant will enable a larger share of patients to receive more appropriate treatment by providing consistent therapeutic dosing in a non-invasive and innovative treatment form for epileptic seizures. About Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis is a potentially life-threatening systemic allergic reaction, with an estimated incidence of 50 to 112 episodes per 100,000 people per year. The frequency of hospital admissions for anaphylaxis has increased 500-700% in the last 10-15 years. The most common causes of reactions that can include anaphylaxis are medications, foods (such as peanuts), and venom from insect stings. Epinephrine injection is the current standard of treatment intended to reverse the potentially severe manifestation of anaphylaxis, which may include red rash, throat swelling, respiratory problems, gastrointestinal distress and loss of consciousness.

AQST-109 is a polymer matrix-based film that can be applied sublingually (under the tongue) for the rapid delivery of epinephrine.
