ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 13, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Virginia House of Delegates candidate J.D. Maddox, whose 45th District includes eastern Alexandria and parts of Arlington and Fairfax, has proposed a mold-breaking 1% limit on homeowner property tax in Virginia.

Recent analysis of the Washington, D.C., real estate market indicates that the commercial real estate market is flagging, with no new commercial construction and increased vacancies due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Maddox assesses that municipalities will most likely have to turn to homeowners for tax revenues as the market shifts.

"City governments in this area, especially Alexandria, have shown they're not up to the task of providing basic services, such as public education, policing, and infrastructure. They will have a tough time justifying the high taxes citizens are paying for their homes," Maddox explained. Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax's homeowner property tax rates are currently above 1%.
