CHICAGO, Dec. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Chicago Cubs Charities® and SWAGTRON® recently teamed up to provide Cubs Scholar Sean Waight with a very special gift: reliable transportation to his internship, college and beyond. Cubs Productions documented his story in the short film, "Giving is Electric."

"The Cubs Scholars Program is designed for kids who are big achievers with big needs, but also big dreams," says Cubs Charities Programs Manager Jennifer Dedes-Nowak in the film.

Waight, a senior at Wendell Phillips High School on Chicago's south side, is active in his community, including JROTC, swimming and youth work.

"It's important for me to be involved in my community because if it wasn't for the support of those folks, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am," he says in the film.

But when Waight added an internship downtown to his schedule that included a 6-mile commute each way, his old second-hand bike began to require constant maintenance. He began searching for a better solution. He even looked to crowd-funding in an attempt to raise enough money for an electric skateboard.

But the Cubs and SWAGTRON had a better idea.

"The Cubs organization has empowered us as individuals to give back, and it's always really heartwarming to be able to provide someone with something they had their hopes set on," says Dedes-Nowak.
