GTT Group Releases 4th Quarter Patent Transaction Market Report (PTMR)

(GTT Group), a world leader in strategic patent analysis and patent transaction services, today makes available the Fourth Quarter 2020 Patent Transaction Market Report (PTMR) including the Patent Market Index (PMI®) and the Patent Licensing Index (PLI®) results.

The Fourth Quarter PMI grew substantially while remaining in the 100+ range for the 8th consecutive quarter. The PMI or Patent Market Index increased by 5.6% percent to finish the quarter at 109.1, a strong change of course after a slight contraction over the last two quarters. The current status remains significantly above PMI trading ranges of the past four years. Monitored secondary transaction volume increased by 8% in the fourth quarter, reaching a new high for the past 2 years.

The PLI or Patent Licensing index grew a massive 23% in the fourth quarter. With this significant increase, the PLI managed to outperform the return on the S&P 500 by over 50% for the whole of 2020.
