Established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the SSAE 16 SOC 2 is the officially recognized auditing standard for service organizations to demonstrate they have adequate security, availability and processing integrity controls and processes in place. A SOC 2 Type II examination demonstrates that an independent accounting and auditing firm has reviewed and examined an organization's control objectives and activities, and tested those controls to ensure that they are operating effectively. At the conclusion of the examination, a formal report including the auditor's opinion is issued to the examined organization.
