150 étudiants canadiens africains recevront les prestigieuses bourses d'études nationales BBPA
BMO s'engage à verser 1,2 million de dollars sur trois ans
Toronto, Ontario--(Newsfile Corp. - 13 octobre 2022) - Le programme national de bourses d'études de la BBPA a officiellement annoncé les noms de ses lauréats pour 2022. Des bourses d'études totalisant 500 000 $ ont été attribuées à 150 étudiants canadiens noirs de partout au pays, tous actuellement inscrits à des programmes d'études postsecondaires. Ces fonds permettront à ces étudiants de poursuivre leurs études et de franchir les prochaines étapes vers des carrières prestigieuses dans leur domaine respectif.
« Chacun de ces étudiants remarquables est une lueur d'espoir pour ses pairs, pour sa communauté et pour l'avenir de l'économie noire », déclare Nadine Spencer, directrice générale de la BBPA. « En tant qu'organisation, notre objectif est de favoriser l'avancement et l'autonomisation des personnes de couleur, et c'est exactement ce que nous accomplissons en soutenant ces jeunes talents. Mais plus important encore, nous cultivons leur excellence et posons des bases solides pour leur réussite à long terme, ce qui profitera sans aucun doute non seulement aux Canadiens noirs mais aussi à l'ensemble du pays. »
Les boursiers ont été sélectionnés sur la base d'un ensemble de critères, dont l'excellence académique, le besoin financier prouvé et les contributions notables à leur communauté. La cohorte de la BBPA National Scholarships de cette année sera célébrée lors de la cérémonie de remise des bourses qui aura lieu virtuellement le vendredi 14 octobre 2022. Parmi les orateurs invités à cette soirée, on comptera un certain nombre de généreux donateurs de la BBPA National Scholarships Fund et le ministre canadien de l'Éducation. Le Dr Alexander Chase, lauréat de la bourse BBPA 2006, prononcera le discours principal.
Cette année marque également plusieurs nouvelles étapes importantes pour le Scholarship Fund, notamment l'engagement de BMO de verser 1,2 million de dollars pour couvrir 30 bourses d'études et stages sur trois ans.
« La raison d'être de BMO, qui est d'avoir le cran de faire une différence dans la vie, comme en affaires, motive notre engagement à faire des progrès vers une économie florissante, un avenir durable et une société inclusive », a déclaré Vanessa Lewerentz, chef de l'inclusion, BMO Groupe financier. « La bourse d'études BMO Funding Future Scholarship, nouvellement créée, vise à éliminer les obstacles persistants à l'inclusion dûs au fait que ces étudiants sont les premiers de leur famille à fréquenter une université ou un collège. Chacune de ces bourses d'études aide les individus à réaliser leurs rêves et nous sommes si fiers de faire partie de leur parcours. »
2022 marque également la deuxième année où des bourses d'études automobiles seront soutenues par la Fondation Toyota. De plus, une bourse d'études créée en l'honneur de l'ancien champion THC Robert « Bobby Love » Izzard sera attribuée à un étudiant vivant dans un logement de Toronto. Ces nouveaux prix ne feront qu'étendre la portée du programme de bourses d'études et créer davantage de voies de réussite pour la génération montante de professionnels noirs.
« À la BBPA, nous reconnaissons le potentiel académique de notre communauté et fournissons le coup de pouce financier nécessaire pour changer le paysage », déclare Ross Cadasse, le président de la BBPA. « Nous savons qu'il existe une capacité d'excellence supplémentaire au sein de notre communauté d'étudiants, à égalité avec les meilleurs, mais l'accès aux bourses et au financement de l'éducation continue d'être un obstacle; nous changeons cela pour le mieux. »
Anciennement intitulé la « BBPA Harry Jerome Scholarship Fund », l'Association des professionnels et des commerçants noirs a créé la BBPA National Scholarship Fund en 1986. Les bourses d'études nationales de la BBPA sont rendues possibles grâce à la contribution de généreux commanditaires et donateurs. Depuis la création du fonds, des milliers d'étudiants postsecondaires de la communauté noire du Canada ont reçu des bourses d'études.
